Advanced FAQ – Tackling the Tough Questions
Who determines expertise? Expertise is determined through a combination of education, experience, and contributions to the field. Numanity carefully vets experts by evaluating their background, impact, and alignment with our mission. While academic credentials can be one indicator, we also recognize the value of embodied knowledge, grassroots activism, and hands-on experience. Experts in Numanity’s network typically have a deep depth of knowledge in a specific niche and a proven track record of meaningful work. We ensure that those contributing to the platform are trusted voices in their respective areas, committed to real environmental progress rather than performative sustainability. To make this process as unbiased and representative as possible, we are assembling an Advisory Council composed of diverse experts across different environmental fields. This council will be responsible for assessing expertise and ensuring that our network remains inclusive, credible, and aligned with Numanity’s mission. By relying on a collective decision-making process, we prevent undue influence from any single perspective and foster a platform that truly represents a wide range of environmental knowledge and experience.
What does it take to be an environmental expert? Can anyone become one? Becoming an environmental expert requires a deep understanding of ecological systems, sustainability practices, and the broader environmental landscape. While formal education in environmental science, policy, or a related field can be valuable, expertise is also built through hands-on experience, research, and meaningful contributions to the field. Experts may include scientists, conservationists, educators, policymakers, and community leaders who have dedicated time to understanding and addressing environmental challenges. Additionally, expertise extends beyond traditional environmental science. Skills essential to building a better world—such as storytelling, debate, community organizing, and systems thinking—are equally critical, and experts in these areas contribute significantly to the movement. Embodied knowledge, gained through lived experience and deep practice in sustainability or nature-based traditions, can also make someone an expert. Typically, an expert has a depth of knowledge in one niche area, allowing them to provide specialized insight and guidance.
Do we have everything figured out? No, and we won’t pretend that we do. Numanity is an ambitious and evolving project, and while our mission is clear—to help people reconnect with nature and drive expert-led positive change—we know there will be challenges along the way. We are committed to learning, adapting, and staying true to our end goal. What we can promise is that every decision we make will be in service of this mission, and we will continue to refine and improve as we grow.
How does Numanity ensure that funding does not influence curriculum development and prevent greenwashing? Numanity is designed to keep all educational content independent of external influence, making corporate greenwashing obsolete. While anyone can donate to support the platform, no donor—whether corporate, institutional, or individual—will have any say over what is taught. Our curriculum is developed by vetted environmental experts and guided solely by research, best practices, and the needs of our users. Because donors have no control over what is taught, their money goes toward creating a more educated populace—one that can critically evaluate sustainability claims and will not support unethical or misleading environmental practices. This structure ensures that anyone who donates inherently has the intention of creating real change, rather than simply engaging in surface-level sustainability rhetoric.
How is Numanity different from other environmental education or activism platforms? Unlike traditional platforms, Numanity is not just about information—it’s about empowerment. We focus on helping individuals find their unique role in shaping a better future through mentorship, career pathways, and hands-on engagement rather than just passive learning. Our approach blends gamification, expert insights, and real-world action to bridge the gap between knowledge and impact.
Is Numanity only for young people or students? No. While students are a key demographic, Numanity is designed for anyone looking to reconnect with nature and contribute to a regenerative future. Whether you’re a mid-career professional seeking purpose, an educator looking to integrate sustainability into your curriculum, or a retiree exploring new ways to engage, Numanity has resources for you.
How does Numanity address systemic barriers to sustainability? We recognize that systemic issues—economic inequality, political inertia, and corporate influence—often hinder meaningful environmental progress. Numanity helps tackle these barriers by empowering users with strategic knowledge, connecting them with mentors in positions of influence, and facilitating pathways to green careers and policy engagement. The innate flexibility that exists within our technical application to environmental education enables Numanity to cater to people of all backgrounds. Additionally, being a free platform anyone is able to access Numanity with zero price-walls standing in their way.
